„Stimmen aus dem Ruhegebiet“ – die erste Platte von AufRuhr Records ist Programm. Der gähnend leeren Musik- und Kulturlandschaft des Ruhrgebiets der 70/80er Jahre setzte das Plattenlabel Initiative entgegen: Selbermachen, Aufrütteln, Horizonterweiterung. Gegründet von Karl-Heinz Blomann und Musikerkollegen stand für den Verlag und das Label ursprünglich die Emanzipation der Musikproduktion im Mittelpunkt: Den Prozess vom künstlerischen Schaffen bis hin zur Veröffentlichung selbstständig bestimmen – eine Problematik, die heute durch die Digitalisierung verschwunden ist. AufRuhr Records entwickelte sich sowohl für im Ruhrgebiet ansässige als auch für nationale und internationale Musiker zu einer Plattform, in der Experimentalität und Interdisziplinarität selbstverständlich sind. Die Bandbreite der künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung spiegelte sich sowohl auf den Tonträgern (bis 1999) als auch aktuell immer noch live in den Veranstaltungsreihen Ambitionierte Konzerte und Blaues Rauschen wieder.

„Stimmen aus dem Ruhegebiet“ (Voices from the quiet area) – the first record by AufRuhr Records says it all. A gaping void in the musical and cultural landscape of the Ruhr-Area was countered by the label’s initiative in the 70’s and 80’s: do-it-yourself, arouse, broaden horizons. Founded by Karl-Heinz Blomann and fellow musicians the emancipation of music production was the focus of the publishing house and label originally: to self-determine the process from artistic notion of creation to publication – a problem, which disappeared with digitalisation. AufRuhr Records develops into a platform, for musicians from the Ruhr-Area as well as national and international musicians, on which experimentalism and interdisciplinarity are a matter of course. The spectrum of the artistic involvement is reflected on both the records (until 1999) and currently in the two series of events: “Ambitionierte Konzerte” and “Blaues Rauschen”.
